Lactose Intolerance
"I find that I get stomach cramps and feel bloated after I have drunk milk, could I be lactose intolerant?" woman
About 80% of people of African decent have difficulty digesting milk and some dairy products because they are lactose intolerant. The condition occurs because the body is unable to break down lactose; a natural sugar found in milk and dairy products. Most of us can digest milk as a child and develop lactose intolerance as adults.
Most people with lactose intolerance can digest yoghurt, cheese and moderate amounts of condensed milk without any problems. There are many dairy free milk and yoghurts on the market, choose one fortified with calcium and vitamins for most nutritional benefit.
