Vague Vs SMART Goals
It often takes practice to become skilled in setting SMART goals, without realising it our goals can be vague and unplanned. Have a look at these statements and decide if they are vague or SMART goals:
Vague
SMART
Val has decided to try and get fit.
Her goal is 'I am going to get fit in the new year'
Charmaine wants to start eating more healthily by eating less fat.
Her goal is 'I am going to reduce the amount of fat in my diet by making sure I buy skimmed milk instead of full fat and choosing tuna in spring water instead of tuna in oil'
Penny would like to find other people to go to her aerobics class with.
Her goal is 'I will find someone at work who also wants to go to aerobics'
Lorna knows that she finds it very hard to resist the temptation of eating lots of sweet things when they are in the house.
Her goal is 'instead of buying chocolate in my weekly shop I will buy one chocolate bar on Tuesday and Saturday'
Diane cooks for her whole family, and wants to make sure that they start to eat more healthy food.
'I will not add any butter or coconut cream when cooking rice for 2 weeks'
Marlene filled in a food diary and found she was only eating 2 portions of fruit a day.
Her goal is 'I will buy more fruit and make sure I eat it'
